Cristiano Ronaldo has been at Real Madrid since his multi million pound transfer back in 2009; the £80million paid by his club broke the record at that time for the most expensive transfer fee ever paid for a football player.
Since joining the Spanish giants he has gone on to score a very impressive 178 goals in only 166 appearances, a magnificent achievement that has many people referring to the player as one of the best players in the world and, possibly, of all time. Manchester United first discovered his talent when Sir Alex Ferguson brought him over to English football back in 2004 from Sportin Lisbon for £12million. The talent didn’t take long to come on show with the player seemingly adjusting to Premier League football very easily and he was soon impressing the Manchester crowds with his fancy footwork and skill.
It took some time for the Old Trafford faithful to grow to love him with some criticising him for being too greedy on the ball. But as he got older and more mature he soon developed the side to his game for which he is so famously known now, with a great scoring and assist record which made him a cult hero in Manchester.
He is still loved dearly by the United fans and he also holds the Red Devils in high regard, saying : “I love Manchester, everyone knows that – I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart.”
Such comments obviously leave the door open for a possible return one day. The Ronaldo magic follows him where ever he goes and he has also become a hero in Mafrid. But it’s no secret that Real will try and do all they can to keep hold of their super star, not only for footballing reasons but for financial reasons as well. They have indeed made it quite difficult for anyone to get the player away from the Bernabeu, with a gigantic £1billion release clause built in to his contract, which is a hugely unrealistic transfer fee for anyone to pay and one that even the likes of Chelsea or Manchester City being able to afford.
A possible move back to Man United would be a huge boost to the once great English team who find themselves struggling after the retirement of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He would be welcomed back with open arms by the United faithful. It would be a transfer which would be a great boost not only to the team but to English football as a whole. To have the world’s biggest football star back in England would mean attracting more crowds all over the country at football grounds. Fans would no doubt buy a ticket just to see the man in action.
It would be a great move for the player as well. Ronaldo said recently: “I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.”
And it would be a fitting fairy tail ending to his already great career. His story is always going to be told as a success story regardless of where he goes or what he decides to do. With a balon d’or under his belt and his countless trophies, there is no doubt the player has written himself into the history books, but a return to Old Trafford would be the icing on the cake and a fitting end to the story for this player.
But Real Madrid will have other plans, no doubt.
