According to , Chelsea are plotting a move to sign Wolfsburg and Germany international Lena Oberdorf in a bid to strengthen their midfield before the January transfer window closes. The deal is expected to go through irrespective of who replaces Emma Hayes as the new club manager next summer.

The 22-year-old made her professional debut for German club SGS Essen in 2018 and two seasons later moved to Wolfsburg. She won the Frauen-Bundesliga title with the She-Wolves in the 2021/22 season and was a part of the Germany squad that finished runners-up behind England at the 2022 Women's European Championships.

Several coaches have been linked to the Chelsea job ever since Emma Hayes made it official that she would quit the Blues to join the United States women's national team as their head coach. Earlier San Diego Wave manager Casey Stoney was considered favourite to replace Hayes but the NWSL club confirmed on Tuesday that their manager has extended her stay. Currently, Swedish coach Elisabet 'Beta' Gunnarsdottir is being linked with a move to the London club.
