Leeds fans are slowly but surely being won round by Patrick Bamford, a man who has drawn significant criticism from large sections of the fanbase this season.
Typically, it is his wayward finishing which causes frustration, but supporters are beginning to realise he does offer the quality to go with his hard work and effective defending from the front.
Virtually impossible: Can you name the year all of these Leeds flops arrived at Elland Road?
He showed his class to score two goals against Cardiff on Saturday, including winning a penalty before converting it, for which he has rightly been praised.
The suggestion that he could score 20 or more Championship goals is some praise considering what has been said about him previously, but the 26-year-old is certainly starting to find some form and is delivering for his team.
There has been much debate about whether he deserves a starting place ahead of Eddie Nketiah, who replaced him in the clash against the Bluebirds before his side conceded twice more, and that has raised some doubts about the Arsenal loanee.
Fans had questioned why he wasn’t being picked ahead of Bamford but Marcelo Bielsa was clearly showing stubbornness for a reason, as Bamford provides more to his team in terms of tracking back and defending – which supporters have begun to realise.
As a result, fans are being won round by Bamford due to his contribution in multiple areas of the pitch. Such efforts mean he is key to Leeds and that means he should stay on the pitch even if the game is seemingly won.
His importance is becoming highlighted and he is rightly receiving praise, which in many ways has been a long time coming.
Supporters have also been discussing the performance of another somewhat controversial figure, who is bearing his brunt of the criticism following Leeds’ collapse.
