Riyad Mahrez remains Manchester City’s only first team addition so far this summer, but having been so far ahead of the rest of the pack in the Premier League title race last season, adding Leicester City’s talismanic forward to Pep Guardiola’s squad should be enough improvement to ensure another glistening campaign from the English champions.Unfortunately though, Mahrez suffered a scary-looking knock during his last pre-season outing against Bayern Munich, forcing him off in the 3-2 win. He’s been given the all clear to return to training, but he remains a doubt for Sunday’s game.
Which is a conundrum that encapsulates the ambiguity of the importance of the Community Shield. Is it just a glorified friendly, or a vital opportunity to start the season on the front foot with some form of silverware? And the subsequent question in the context of Mahrez’s latest injury, is whether it’s worth risking him in Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.
So, City fans, would you start the 39-cap Algerian despite being an injury risk, or rest him with the first week of the Premier League in mind? Let us know by voting below…
