Jesse Lingard may have only been on the pitch for the second half of Manchester United’s abject 1-0 home defeat against West Brom on Sunday but his performance still left a lot to be desired.
Usually full of energy and endeavour, the England international – valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt – was languid and sloppy, frequently coming inside when it was clear that all the space was on the outside of the Baggies defence.
He is a divisive player for both club and country, even after he has enjoyed a season that has surely been his best at senior level and that’s as much for his off-field persona as what he does week in week out.
Two days after that West Brom debacle, as United gear up for the trip to Bournemouth that could see them go six points ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final opponents Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table, a small video of Lingard emerged.
