West Ham United youngster Nathan Holland carried on his fine form for the U23 side this season with a brilliant goal against their Brighton and Hove Albion counterparts on Wednesday, and Irons fans made their feelings on the 21-year-old known.
Despite his fine form – his strike against the Seagulls added to has now scored nine goals in 11 Premier League 2 outings already this term – his only taste of first-team action came in the embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat at Oxford United.
Having started that encounter and been substituted off at 57 minutes, he hasn’t seen any action under Manuel Pellegrini since, with the Chilean manager ignoring him and not even including him in a matchday squad.
His omission is even more surprising given the wretched run of form the east London outfit are currently on, having only taken two points from the last 21 available in the top flight.
It seems as though that would be the perfect time to introduce a young, in-form player with nothing to fear, but it hasn’t happened.
