Araujo has been struggling with injury throughout the season and found himself out of favour – behind Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi at the heart of the Barcelona defence. The defender was at fault for Inter's goals in the club's semi-final exit from the Champions League, prompting fans to call for his sale. Despite mixed form and limited game time, the defender could still have a future at the Catalan giants.

Flick suggests there could be a way back into the fold for Araujo. He said: "I'm counting on Araujo for next season. He has a contract, so why not? I'm happy with him. He had a difficult season because of injuries and the good form of Cubarsí and Inigo."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Araujo will have to step up his performance levels if he is to oust either Cubarsi or Martinez in defence. The combination of the spritely young teenager and the experienced old-head has been key to Barcelona's success this campaign. For Araujo to get a chance, he will have to remain free from injury and demonstrate he is still the elite defender so many believed he was.

Araujo has collected his winners' medal for his minimal part in Barcelona's title victory this season, but will be desperate to prove he can still be relied upon next season. Whilst exit rumours have dried up and Flick has suggested he wants to keep a hold of the defender, Araujo could still leave the club in the summer.
