Rashford returned to Amorim's matchday squad against Newcastle United on Sunday after missing the club's previous three Premier League encounters. The Portuguese manager, however, did not bring the forward onto the pitch despite the club suffering a 2-0 defeat at home.

After the game, the former Sporting CP boss revealed whether his decision to leave the English forward on the bench was to "make a point". United ended 2024 on a frustrating note as they lost five out of their last six league encounters. They also dropped to the 14th position in the league table, with Amorim incredibly admitting that relegation is a "possibility".

Speaking to reporters, the 39-year-old head coach said when quizzed on Rashford: "I think about the team, you think a lot about Marcus. When I am there I am not making a point, I just want to win the game. You can feel it. I am talking about the idea, the fight for relegation. I want to make a point? No I just want win the game."
